The Beaches

Biography

Captivating the indie scene with rich 80s-tinted melodies and quick-witted lyrics, The Beaches have unleashed their neighbourhood namesake group onto the music world with sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller (on lead vocals/bass and guitar, Eliza Enman-McDaniel (on drums) & Leandra Earl (on keys and guitar).

The Beaches won Juno Awards for Breakthrough Artist (2018) and Rock Album of the Year (2022) and are named one of Canada’s greatest acts by Exclaim magazine. The band has had 6 no. 1 singles on Canadian Alt Radio with their single “Grow Up Tomorrow” hitting #1 on Alternative & Rock radio in Canada where it reigned for seven weeks. 

It’s apparent that The Beaches are one of Canada’s biggest bands and here to slay.

Headstones

Biography

Canadian rock band, Headstones, formed in Kingston, Ontario, began their early music career performing to anyone who would listen. At the time, artists such as Neil Young and Leonard Cohen were gracing the charts on Canadian radio while American musician Stevie Ray Vaughn was reviving the blues south of the border. Headstones decided to take a much different approach. 

The Headstones recently released their highly anticipated full-length album Flight Risk, followed by a sold out tour from Toronto to Vancouver, including Buffalo. Flight Risk is pre-apocalyptic rock and roll at its finest, following up their 2019 release PeopleSkills, which garnered two Top 10 radio hits with “Leave It All Behind” and “Horses”. The Headstones are headed back to the studio to begin work on their forthcoming new album, scheduled to be released Spring 2024.

Biography

Pegged as Canada’s breakout alt-diva, Begonia has built a legion of fans online and at her legendary live shows.  Her critically acclaimed discography includes Lady In Mind EP (2017), Fear (2019) and Powder Blue (2023). A JUNO nominee (2021, Adult Alternative Album of the Year), she has two Polaris Prize nominations, multiple #1 songs on CBC Radio, and was named one of NPR’s Artists You Need to Know. Her sophomore album, Powder Blue emerged in early 2023 and confronts themes of sexuality, self-discovery, acceptance and empowerment. The album was named one of CBC Music’s Best Canadian Albums of 2023 (#7).  Begonia is a standout Canadian talent, and the world is beginning to take notice.

Dear Rouge

Biography

For over 10 years now, Dear Rouge, the alternative rock duo of Drew and Danielle McTaggart, have been winning over fans consistently and hitting new career heights. Following their major label debut record, 2015’s Black To Gold, the couple picked up multiple Top 10 radio hits, the 2015 SOCAN Songwriting Prize, and the 2016 Juno for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Dear Rouge continued their upward trajectory with their 2018 sophomore album PHASES which included the lead single “Boys and Blondes” and the #1 Alternative Rock hit, “Live Through The Night”. Along the way, they’ve opened for artists like Phantogram, Arkells, Our Lady Peace, and Lights, and they continue to wow crowds on major festival stages from coast to coast with their energetic and dynamic live performances. 

Martin Kerr

Biography

UK-born and Edmonton-based troubadour, Martin Kerr, knows exactly what he wants to do in his music. Through heartfelt lyrics, delicate instrumentation, and sparse production, he explores the nuances of everyday life as well as its wonders with a poetic and poignant perspective. After generating millions of streams and playing thousands of shows to rapt audiences, he delivers a message to listeners straight from the heart and without filter.

In 2021, he caught the attention of Nettwerk Music Group and signed to his “dream label.” As the world slipped into lockdown during the Global Pandemic, a serendipitous fan email inspired an idea. Martin played in the alley next to this particular fan’s balcony much to the delight of the entire neighborhood. Soon, his inbox flooded with requests for “Stay Home Street Concerts,” enshrining him as “the only artist to perform 400 live shows during the Pandemic.” It only catalyzed his creativity further into what would be his upcoming EP.

Biography

Electric Religious is the project of Treaty-6 based Métis singer-songwriter, Brandon Baker, whose guitar-driven music has been described as “bursting with inspiration, insight, and hope.” Deeply influenced by the psychedelic sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Baker took his moniker from a Hendrix quote: “When I get up on stage, that’s my whole life. That’s my religion. My music is electric church music. I am electric religion.”

The single, “Hard Skin,” was among the CBC Searchlight Top 100 in 2022, and Tragic Lover was selected among CKUA Radio’s “Top 100 Albums of 2021,” on the heels of his nomination for Métis Artist of the Year at the 2021 Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards. “One More Night” rose to #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown and “Catherine” hit #1 on Ch. 165 Indigenous People’s Radio. Another previous single “Revolution,” also made the CBC Searchlight Top 100 in 2019. In 2022, Electric Religious embarked on an 8-date tour of Japan, supported by a FACTOR Juried Sound Recording grant and the Canada Council for the Arts. His upcoming album, The Taste, is set for release in July 2024. This collection of tunes straddles pop, rock, and funk – with an Indigenous spin on the genres Electric Religious has coined as “Métis Disco.”

Justin Sutton has made a name for himself in the Alberta country music scene with his authentic approach to the genre. His debut album, recorded with producer Bart McKay, has received widespread recognition and airplay on hundreds of radio stations worldwide, with standout track “Greyhound” receiving over 40,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Adding depth, emotion, and character to his music, Justin connects with audiences and leaves a lasting impression. With the release of “Side B” of his debut album on the horizon, Justin Sutton is ready to make his mark the country music world.

This energetic trio is all girl, a whole lot of fun, and a sprinkle of sparkle. They might be a new group, but they’re not new on the scene: last summer, their frontwoman Kat — who normally plays festivals all across Canada — played at the now-international Women’s Music Festival before heading on a tour down to Nashville. Bassist Hannah has not only been playing bass for 11 years, but is also a successful local multimedia artist. And, drummer Megan brings 17 years of multi-genre experience, having performed on provincial tours and at local, provincial, and national festivals.

Building momentum following their January debut at Edmonton’s The Starlite Room, Kat Hannah and Megan are for sure part of your top ten favourite girl bands as Panic Pixie!

Biography

When you turn on a King of Foxes tune, it’s a safe bet that the skies will open, alien aircraft will appear, the ark of the covenant will descend before ye, and all of your childhood pets will arise from the dead. Also, you’ll hear an indie alternative artist whose undeniably catchy tunes earned her a Rock Artist of the Year nomination at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards, a spot on the Edmonton Music Prize Top 3 shortlist, and a nod from Cups ‘n Cakes: “King of Foxes is the real deal.” Fronted by singer-songwriter Olivia Street, King of Foxes has released three critically acclaimed albums. Twilight of the Empire—recorded in a basement with beige shag carpet on the walls and a Wurlitzer in the closet—quickly rose to #1 on the CKUA chart. Her music has also found its way onto some prestigious “best of” lists, including as #11 on CKUA’s Top 100 Albums of 2022, and among NPR radio’s George Graham’s Best of 2022 Albums list.

Maddie Storvold

Maddie Storvold

Biography

Maddie Storvold is the proverbial black sheep love child of comedian Steven Wright and protest singer Joan Baez. Born on an air force base in Northern Alberta, but raised a nomad, based in the Middle East, she had traveled to over 30 countries by the time she turned 18 and moved back to Canada to complete a degree in English & Philosophy at Western University. This wealth of diverse cultural experiences and the intimate study of the craft of words can certainly be heard in the singer’s music. Often compared to Joni Mitchell, Storvold possesses compassion and storytelling abilities far beyond her years, and delivers these qualities to audiences with a honeyed, impassioned voice and emotive fingerpicking.

Mallory Chipman

Mallory Chipman

Biography

Mallory Chipman is an award-winning singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer from Treaty Six Territory in Canada. A true raconteuse, Chipman is revered for the way she artfully weaves the story into a song and expresses both power and vulnerability through her music.

Genre knows know bounds within her catalogue, as she seamlessly traverses styles including folk, jazz, country, pop, rock, and experimental music. Alongside her current solo folk music project, Chipman plays with alt-country outfit, The Goddamsels.

On May 5, 2023, Mallory released her latest album, a EP entitled As Though I Had Wings on Tunnel Mountain Records, which Amplify Magazine described as “some of the finest folk-rock currently being made”. Her next release, a full-length album entitled Songs to a Wild God is slated for release in 2024.

Mallory Chipman’s performance career is balanced by her work as a songwriter, arranger, producer, and music scholar. In 2023 she was named Edmonton’s inaugural Musician in Residence and celebrated as a member of Edify Magazine’s Class of 2023 Top 40 Under 40.

Marco Corbo

Biography

Marco Corbo is well known in Edmonton’s music scene and has been recognized by the Edmonton Sun as one of Edmonton’s Top Emerging Artists. Following commercial radio success with his band, Marco recorded an intimate acoustic album in 2014. Enlisting the help of keyboardist Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, Wallflowers), guitarist Joel Shearer (Alanis Morissette), and long-time bandmate and friend Jeremy Kornel, the album again had commercial radio success, particularly the title track Love on the Radio, receiving radio play in Canada and the United States.

Marco has played several festivals, including the Beaumont Music Festival and the Firefly Music Festival. He is looking forward to releasing new music followed by many live shows and festival performances.

Megan Paige

Biography

Country Music Alberta nominee Megan Paige is a 19 year old singer/songwriter from Millet, Alberta. Megan is pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a country music artist and sharing her love of music with the world.

Megan has played on stages such as the Jubilee Auditorium, Cook County Saloon, The Station on Jasper in Edmonton and Ranchmans in Calgary. She has played for corporate, private and fundraising events as well as several music festivals such as Pigeon Lake Music Festival in Mulhurst Bay, Alberta.

Megan is honored to have her music earn a spot on the top 100 of 2022 on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown. She is also excited to share that she won the Global Country Star Search in 2023 which will take her down to Nashville to compete in the NACMAI competition in the Spring of 2024.

Her fourth single “Yesterday’s Rain” was released in August, 2023 and comes on the heels of her first three singles “Best I Never Had”, “Told Me You Loved Me and “No Coming Back From You” which were released in 2021 and 2022.

Tania Ribeiro

Biography

Tania Ribeiro is a singer-songwriter with Portuguese origins, who currently resides in Beaumont, Alberta. She performs and writes various genres of music, drawing influence and inspiration from Country, Rock, R & B as well as her Latin roots. Tania started singing at a young age though her journey towards a career in music accelerated eight years ago. While living in Nashville, Tennessee, Tania tried her hand at various facets of performance, including singing background vocals and demoing songs. Through this process, she discovered that songwriting was her passion and would be her life’s work. She has graced various stages from Broadway Street in Nashville, Tennessee to Shakers Roadhouse, in Edmonton, Alberta with many stops along the road.
